Description

The Women in Military Service for America Memorial shows the inspiration, sacrifice and dedication of the some 2 million women who have served the U.S. military since 1776. Their lives and service are commemorated at the memorial especially in recognition to those women who died in service, were prisoners of war, or were recipients of our nation's highest award for service and bravery.

The Memorial consists of a large white stone building to the side of Arlington National Cemetery. Its roof is a beautiful arc of glass tablets stretching 250 feet across and inscribed with quotations by and about women who have served. Natural light passes tinted into the interior of the museum below and creates a serene presence and memory. The glass tablets illuminate the cemetery hillside at night and during the day, serve as skylights to the interior of museum which houses the Hall of Honor, exhibits, artifacts of women's military service, and a theater.

For those searching for loved ones or a family member, there is a the computerized register which places the names, records of service, photographs, and memorable military experiences of individual service women at the public's fingertips.
