Description

History buffs will have a heyday in Alexandria's Lyceum, a Greek Revival building constructed originally to host lectures and meetings put on for the benefit of scholarly gentlemen known as The Alexandria Lyceum. These days, the building sees service as a museum, with exhibits dedicated to recording the history of Alexandria from its formal inception as a town in 1749 to the present. Though the intriguing history of the Lyceum itself is the focus there is also a variety of other artifacts and objects from the city's past on show, from furniture and textiles to tools and toys. Visit the Alexandria Archaeology Museum for more information on city's history prior to 1749.
