The Pines Campground is in Craig County, VA, 15 miles northeast of New Castle.

17 camping units, each with gravel parking spur, wooden picnic table, fireplace, lantern post, and tent pad. Most sites are designed for tents, but recreation vehicles up to 16 feet can be accommodated. Hand pump for water. Central garbage containers. Vault toilets.

4 camping units with space for trailers to pull in, wooden picnic tables, fireplaces, and lantern posts. Horse corral and unloading ramps. Water available.

Summer days are warm (70-80''s). Frosts are common in spring and fall, and snows in winter.

The lower loop of the campground is amidst hardwoods, the upper loop in pines. The group area is partially open and mowed.

Basic Directions

From I81, take Exit 141 onto SR 419 North to SR 311 North to New Castle. Turn right on SR 615 for 2.5 miles. Turn left on SR 609 for 2 miles to SR 611. Turn left on SR 611 and take it to SR 617. Turn right on SR 617 for 5.5 miles to campground entrance on left. Driving distance 32 miles; estimate time 45 minutes.From Covington, take SR 18 to SR 615. Turn left and follow to SR 617, campground on right.
