If you've ever had a hankering to see what life was like in the mountains of southwest Virginia before settlers took over en masse then a trip to the Historic Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park is in order. Actors in period costumes work to give visitors a glimpse of what life was like for a late 18th-century farming family. Associated galleries run from cartography to geology, the latter showcasing fossils and Woolly Mammoth bones. In Pioneer Park itself find an old farmhouse, a reconstruction of Fort Witten and a blacksmith's shop.
