Description

The Mount Rogers Scenic Byway travels through the Jefferson National Forest to the core of Mount Rogers Mountain Area where easy access to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and the Virginia Creeper National Recreational Trail offer the traveler ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Mount Rogers Scenic Byway takes Route 91 in Glade Spring to Damascus, then 58 east to Konnarock, 603 north to Troutdale, and 16 to Marion. An alternate route takes 600 south in Konnarock to cross Whitetop Mountain.

The tallest point in Virginia, Mount Rogers, is the main attraction of the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area. Primitive and modern camping facilities are available. Whitewater streams rush along the mountainside, and trails weave their way through the region providing excellent hiking and horseback riding opportunities. Geologists will thrill at the sedimentary deposits along the way, relics of an old sea.
