Description
The Colonial Parkway is a drive into yesteryear that begins in Jamestown, the site of the first permanent English settlement in the United States. Its route, shaped like a triangle with vertices at Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown, is 23 miles long and covers over 167 years of history.
The Parkway follows Routes 64, 143, 132, and 132Y, beginning in Jamestown and culminating in Yorktown.
Mature trees rise above the roadway, shading it like a green canopy. The James and York rivers jog alongside the Parkway, glittering here and there with the sun's reflection. Attractions such as Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg spice up the trip with their re-enactments of those early American days. And Yorktown, the last English settlement in the U.S, is the journey's final destination.
From old homesteads to Revolutionary battlefields, the Colonial Parkway presents an up close and personal approach to history that can't be beat.
