Description

The 16-mile ride along Big Walker Mountain Scenic Byway affords awesome views of the Ridge and Valley landscape, colorful blooms in the spring, and great birds of prey circling the warm air currents rising from the valley. From the peak of Big Walker Mountain, the tallest mountain crest in Virginia - Mount Rogers - can be seen amid a panorama that spans several miles.

This Byway follows Routes 717, 52/21, and 77 in the state of Virginia.

The park is filled with opportunities for outdoor activities. Both bait and fly fishing is popular in these parts. Swimming, too, is especially refreshing at one of the mountain beaches, such as Cave Mountain Lake, Trout Pond, or Sherando Lake. Trails are available for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. And, there are all sorts of picnic areas en route to enjoy a meal in the open air.
